ARCHITECTURAL & STRUCTURAL GUIDE

Critical Engineering Guidelines for System Selection

Standards for purlin spacing, live loads, fire containment and joint detailing.

1. Selecting Between 3-Rib and 5-Rib Roof Geometries

3-rib profiles offer an economical solution for standard purlin spans up to 1.50m under moderate snow loads. 5-rib panels significantly increase structural moment of inertia, enabling safe spans of 2.00m to 2.50m. For rooftop Solar PV installations, 5-rib geometry is strongly recommended to securely clamp solar rails.

2. Rooftop Solar PV Integration & Watertight Fastening

Standard solar mounting that punctures panels through to purlins creates chronic leak liabilities. Our 5-rib panels are certified for top-crown clamping using engineered mini-rails with EPDM gaskets, eliminating structural punctures and preserving envelope watertightness.

3. Roof Pitch Criteria and Longitudinal Overlap Detailing

Standard trapezoidal roof panels require a minimum pitch of 5% (7% in high precipitation zones). For slopes below 5%, factory-membrane panels (`SP-ROOF-MEMB`) must be utilized. When panel runs exceed 13.50m requiring end-laps, a minimum 200mm overlap with double butyl sealant beads is mandatory.

4. Regional Snow & Wind Uplift Static Load Engineering

Under structural code TS 498, heavy continental snow zones experience live loads up to 350 kg/m². These demanding conditions require 5-rib panels with 60-80mm thickness and conservative purlin spans not exceeding 2.00m.

5. Coil Gauge Sizing & Weather Corrosion Resistance

Facing atmospheric elements directly, top skins must be specified at minimum 0.50mm DX51D galvanized steel. Marine and harsh industrial zones benefit from 0.60mm gauges and specialized PVDF or Plastisol coatings.

6. Ridge and Eave Thermal Bridge Mitigation Detailing

Ridge intersections require ventilated flashings backed by custom profile foam closures and under-ridge plates, stopping storm-driven rain ingress and winter thermal energy loss.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Frequently Asked Technical Questions

Detailed engineering answers on pricing, fire codes, installation spans and delivery.

What is the minimum roof slope for sandwich panels?
Standard 3 and 5 rib sandwich panels require a minimum roof slope of 5% (approx 3 degrees), ideally 7-10% in heavy snow regions. For lower slopes between 1.5% and 4%, factory PVC/TPO membrane panels must be used.
What is the recommended purlin spacing for roof panels?
Purlin spacing depends on panel thickness, steel gauges and regional snow/wind loads. For 50mm 5-rib PUR panels, typical purlin spans range between 1.80m and 2.20m. Dense Rockwool panels with reinforced facings can bridge up to 2.50m.
Does rooftop solar installation puncture the roof panels?
No. Our 5-rib panels interface with engineered mini-rail clamps that grip the trapezoidal crowns directly, avoiding structural skin punctures and preserving watertight warranties.
What is the difference between 3-rib and 5-rib roof panels?
Rib count dictates load-bearing moment of inertia. 3-rib panels are economical for spans up to 1.50m. 5-rib profiles provide reinforced rigidity for spans up to 2.50m and solar installations.
What is the maximum manufacturing length for roof panels?
Road freight standards limit practical continuous panel lengths to 13.50 meters on standard trailers, with special permitted haulage extending up to 15 meters.
Which insulation core is best for industrial factory roofs?
PUR/PIR panels provide optimal thermal efficiency. Insured facilities mandate FM-approved PIR, while high fire-hazard foundries and chemical processing plants require A1 Rockwool.
How are roof flashings, gutters and ridge details supplied?
All matching flashings (ridge caps, eave drips, barge boards, gutters) are fabricated from matching RAL coils and dispatched in a coordinated single shipment.
How many fasteners are required per square meter of roof panel?
Fasteners are placed on purlin lines through crown saddles. Standard consumption averages 2.5 to 3.5 screws per m², with higher density along eave and ridge perimeters.
